I remembered in the early 1990s there was a time when gasoline cost fewer than two dollars a gallon; that was like 20 years and a few “strategic military operations overseas” ago. I don’t know if we will ever see gas get that cheap ever again! It seems to only go up (yes, even when inflation is factored in) every year. Well, what if one day we no longer cared how much oil overseas cost per barrel? What if we no long had to go over to foreign lands and force freedom down their throats for the sake of keeping our gas affordable? Thanks to Toyota, we might be one step closer by 2015!
Toyota has announced that it will try to build and sell a complete fuel-cell car by the 2015. The price will be around a cool $50,000. It’s so cheap that I might get two (just in case I break one on the way home). The cost of a fuel-cell car has been one of the biggest things holding it back from being widely released. So far, the only fuel-cell cars on the road have been leased or loaned out to specific drivers for publicity reasons mostly. Though the $50,000 price tag may still seem steep to us normal folk, it is still much consumer-friendly than the previous 6 or 7 figure amounts for making just one of those cars.
I think this is a great idea. I can’t imagine anyone objecting to the fact that fuel-cell cars will finally be hitting the road within the next decade. Fuel-cell cars have been proven to be more powerful, environmentally friendly, and independent from foreign oil; this means both Democrats and Republicans can finally agree on something that will have a side effect of actually being good for the people. This introduction of the fuel-cell cars will definitely have a huge impact on the enormous oil industry of today since hydrogen cars will not be using gasoline at all. I can already see the world market shifting its investments towards fuel-cell technology and away from more oil-driven industries. I think the world will be a cleaner, better place without oil cartels from the Middle East controlling the prices of oil that affects everything from food to travel. It’s good to see the growth of Green industries such as fuel-cell cars and solar power!
Toyota has such amazing technologies that can change the world. Now, if only they can make an accelerator that won’t stick.
I am not sure if I am ready to shell out $50k to help our environment out. That is almost 70% of my salary. I guess it will get cheaper slowly over time.
Good to hear that Fuel Cell Vehicles are getting pushed out in the next few years.
