In response to the U.S. Treasury plans to bail out government-backed mortgage lenders, Andy Beal, president of Beal Bank stated, “The government has to provide that support to the housing market, but they don’t have to provide it to such great expense to the taxpayers. The fact is, there’s going to be a bunch of pain here, and it should be felt by the people who made the investments, not by the taxpayers.”
