| What is 1911(TM)? |
![]() INTRODUCTION 1911(TM) is a FDIC bank financial profile search engine (quite a mouth full) we put together here at Money Economics. The idea is very straight forward: some of the people here at Money Economics are used to assign grades. So let's do that to banks too! The objective with 1911 is to give the user a simple, yet useful, report tool to look at the Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) for the bank he/she chooses. 1911(TM) is made possible only in recent years as we move all records to database formats. It is otherwise impossible to imagine tracking and importing the years of data for every FDIC-insured bank (currently over 8,000) in the United States. We are proud to take part of making this available to the public - at no cost to use. BACKGROUND We have to confess here at Money Economics that 1911 came out as an accident by-product. That is: we never intended to build this. Our interest lies in the area of everyday finance. We specialize in financial recipes to help our readers navigate the otherwise very murky, yet omnipresent, area in our everyday lives. The story came that we have been studying and tracking high yield FDIC-insured banks (we also track mortgage, insurance, and other categories you can at the main page). We care about getting the highest yields for our savings (we pass this to our readers, too!) and the question of the bank's financial performance came up. We want to keep our deposits at institutions that are reputable, insured, financially sound, and at the same time paying us the highest possible interest rate. As a result, we collected a large amount of data for our analysis. It is going to be difficult to go over the analytical methods we employ - let's just say our background here include the areas of: mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, mathematical sciences, and a few more. In late summer of 2008, when signs of many banks are at risk of failing, we decide to put together something using our data so it is not just a company tool. So with a talented and fun crew we have here, we moved forward and built 1911 that everyone can access. We have no intention of charging people fees to use this bank search engine. We believe that this will add more transparency to the banking industry as we make these reports available. P.S. This application will only list banks that are live as of the most recent quarter.
